Ernesto Colnago enters the fray: on 4 September 2005 the first staging of the Granfondo Colnago will take place in Piacenza, starting and finishing at the Expo fairground.
This project is born out of the passion and the efforts of a group of fans who studied the idea of a race in the hills around Piacenza and then submitted it to Colnago, focal point of the cycling scene in Italy and around the world.

Functional evaluation, physiology, training programmes and performance optimisation, dietary advice; you can find all the information you need for a correct training regime on the Sport Service Mapei website, a centre created to support the athletes of the MAPEI professional cycling team through scientific reason and a precise ethical approach.

There will be two courses:
165 kilometres with an approximate gain of 2,700 metres (Gran Fondo) and 120 kilometres with an approximate gain of 1,700 metres (Medio Fondo).
In the gorgeous scenery of the hills around Piacenza, the riders will have to overcome several undulating stretches at a 15% gradient to reach the Passo Santa Barbara peak at 1,150 metres, going through the Passo del Cerro, Passo Caldarola and the Bagnolo ascent. A challenging but not prohibitive course, it will show the riders and fans scenery never experienced before.
